about

SAN FRANCISCO, June 21, 2001 — Today, the tunefilter recording label announced the much anticipated release of the first of what is expected to be many hits from The Exciting Sounds of Savo. “The Early Years” is a compendium of hits from the 1990’s, highlighting the group’s rambling beginnings in Detroit and San Francisco.

Leaders for a new genre of music dubbed “living room”, the band has an avant-garde recording style inspired by the bottle and friends that couldn’t make it to the party that night. The Roseville Sessions were inspired by the neighborhood of one-bedroom houses, 365 days-a-year Christmas lights, and white trash in which they were recorded. After moving to San Francisco in 1994, a variety of other hits followed as inspired by the clubs and diversity of the area. Cuts recorded in the city-by-the-bay range from the mod-like tunes of International Man of Mystery and Tropical Savo to the lovely He’s the Man, inspired by the traditional anthem “Amazing Grace” and disgraced preachers Jimmy Swaggart and James Baker.

Jim It’s Me Joey, People, Wes’s Mom, Kentucky Love Song, I Have the Rhythm Inside Me II, and Maybe Tom Lost It were all recorded upon the initial arrival to San Francisco after late nights drinking in the glamour of Jack Kerouac’s neighborhood of old haunts. Free OJ demonstrates the band’s versatile ability to write serious topical-based lyrics. Milo Cransten and the Big R House were written based on the schizophrenic and drug-induced life and times of Milo Cransten of Lansing, Michigan.

The music was made possible by The Exciting Sounds of Savo Audio Consortium. A broad band of musicians located across the globe in exotic locales such as East Lansing, MI; Petaluma, CA; and Birmingham, MI; the Consortium members jet set to Savo Studios locals in Detroit and San Francisco to bring this gift of music to the masses. To celebrate and preview the impending release of the CD, Consortium members recently played live before a raucous, capacity crowd at the Lakeview Lounge in Chicago, covering hits from the release.

This best seller is currently available directly from bandcamp or can be acquired at a Ronco retail outlet throughout the Midwest and the Appalachia. The CD has been praised for its individuality by such music industry institutions such as The Absolute WORST of mp3.com and the DJ at Boomers bar, located in the Holiday Inn in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Reviews from mp3.com include:

“Very profound. We definitively feel the pain, the sorrow and the rest. Bring out the beer and pour...pour...pour...all over our sick brains. “

“(***The following is a public service announcement from Beautiful Renderings radio (tm)***) This weekend, when you go out for a good time, go all out. But please, if a friend has had too much to drink, call a cab. Take away the keys, and preferably all musical instruments. Because friends don't let friends jive drunk. Sincerely, the Beautiful Renderings Radio (tm) staff. “
